Our Brilliant Criminal of the day today is 63 year old Larry Wagstaff. Larry’s troubles all began when the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Task Force spotted a stolen vehicle being listed for sale on Craig’s List. It didn’t take the Task Force long to verify that the vehicle was in fact stolen. Then, posing as a buyer, the Task Force arranged a meeting between themselves and Larry.
I wish I could have seen the look on Larry’s face when he showed up to deliver the stolen 2017 Nissan Frontier and instead of meeting the potential buyer he was greeted by the Auto Theft Task Force, the Montgomery County Swat Team, Plus K – 9 and Air Wing Units. It seems the only group not there to arrest Larry was girl scout troop 632 from Luckenbach, Texas.
Note to reader: There isn’t really a girl scout troop 632 from Luckenbach but if there was I bet they would have wanted to be there to arrest Larry!
Larry now faces a plethora of charges like Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Forgery of a Government Document, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Larry will now be staying indoors until he can pony up the $6000 bond.
Note for Larry: If you ever read this Larry I have a helpful tip for you: Maybe for your next crime you can con your way into an acting job by claiming to be Jerry Stiller – I bet he makes big bucks, and you could capitalize on his fame!
Note to reader: The Auto Theft Task Force and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office stress the importance of diligence when purchasing a vehicle from Larry or any other internet seller. Social media makes it easier for criminals to sell stolen vehicles to unsuspecting persons, which for Larry wasn’t quite as easy as he had suspected.
