Tuesday afternoon 27 year old Haley Alyssa Moody of Cleveland, walked onto the property of Big Tex Trailer, got into a PT Cruiser and sped off. Normally, speeding off in a PT Cruiser isn’t that big a deal, but in this case it was… since Haley didn’t actually own the PT Cruiser in question.
Employees of Big Tex Trailer tried to stop Haley as she sped off, but in the PT Cruiser versus employees on foot scenario the PT Cruiser almost always wins. At this point I’m guessing that Haley thought she had made a clean getaway… just one thing stood in her way – The stolen vehicle owner’s wife spotted her husband’s PT Cruiser and called the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Here’s the best part of the story, the wife then gave chase, all the while updating the Sheriff’s Office of Haley’s current location.
At some point Haley must have realized she was being tailed as she was really spanking the surrounding traffic. At one point while headed North on Firetower Road she ran a stop sign so fast that the PT Cruiser became a PT Flyer – it was airborne and almost hit several vehicles in the intersection. Haley finally slowed down and before the PT Cruiser could come to a stop Haley had bailed and was making tracks into a water soaked wooded area.
The Deputies deployed the K-9 solution but the dogs lost Haley’s scent in a water saturated woods. (I’m guessing the chase wasn’t much fun for Haley at this point) Consequently, Haley left the wooded mud bog and was spotted a short distance away… and arrested. She was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. Bond has been set at $6000… and I’m guessing she’ll also have to pay to fix the PT Cruiser she stole.
